Optimist International is moving the Tournament of Champions to a new venue in 2011. ChampionsGate Golf Club in ChampionsGate, Florida (Orlando area), will host the 7th Annual Optimist International Tournament of Champions on November 12-13, 2011.  
 
All divisions will play on the Greg Norman-designed International Golf Course at ChampionsGate. Three age divisions will be offered: Boys 16-18, Boys 14-15 and Girls 14-18. A golfer's division is based on his/her age on November 13, 2011.
 
The Optimist International Tournament of Champions is nationally ranked by the Junior Golf Scoreboard and Golfweek and is included in the AJGA Performance Based Entry process.

Tournament of Champions Winners to Earn Orange Bowl Invitation

Optimist Junior Golf is pleased to announce that the winners of the Boys 16-18 and Girls 14-18 divisions of the 2011 Optimist International Tournament of Champions will earn an invitation to participate in the 2011 Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship. The Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship, one of the most prestigious junior golf events in the world, is scheduled for December 26-30, 2011, at The Biltmore Golf Course in Coral Gables, Florida.

 

Hole in One

Congratulations to Johan Werge in the Boys 16-18 division for making a hole-in-one on #17 during round 1.  Werge used a pitching wedge to make the third ace of his career on the 141 yard hole.  Way to go, Johan!
Ramirez Takes Boys 14-15 Division Title

Congratulations are in order for Ivan Camilo Ramirez from Colombia (Boys 14-15) for winning the Boys 14-15 division of the 2011 Optimist International Tournament of Champions. Ramirez put together rounds of 69-75 (even par) to bring the title of champion home to Colombia. Finishing in a tie for second place were Salvador Rocha from Mexico and Newport Laparojkit from Bradenton, Florida. Congratulations Ivan!
Ace in First Round Boosts Werge to Top of Boys 16-18 Age Group

Johan Werge took advantage of a hole-in-one during round 1, in addition to solid play throughout the event, to finish on top of the Boys 16-18 division at the 2011 Optimist International Tournament of Champions.  Werge's rounds of 70-71--141 were enough to finish three ahead of Chad Merzbacher of Dublin, Ohio and Jake Marriott of Naples, Florida.  Congratulations Johan!
Mexico's Viviana Vazquez Birdies First Playoff Hole to Win Girls 14-18 Championship

Mexico's Viviana Vazquez made birdie on the first playoff hole to win the Tournament of Champions title in the Girls 14-18 division on The International Course at ChampionsGate Golf Club.  After Mary Fran Hillow birdied the 18th hole, the event was decided in a sudden death playoff and Vazquez rolled in her birdie putt to take home the championship.  Way to go Viviana!
