The Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational September 22-23, 2012
The Country Club of Spartanburg is yet again proud to host the 18th playing of the Bobby Chapman Junior Invitational. Parker Derby took the title last year in wonderful victory after he fired 66 to win by one and birdies on 15, 16, and 17 gave him a one shot margin victory. Cody Proveaux just missed a tough sliding putt that would have tied Derby on the 18th hole and left him in the runner up position. Both players are great friends and Cody was the first to congratulate the champion.

Andrew Novak  and Matthew Nesmith accomplished the rarest of feats when both player made double eagle on the tough par 5 17th hole. Both players were just outside of 200 yards and plenty of spectators were on hand to cheer the accomplishments. The field represented 11 AJGA victories, 21 USGA Junior Participants, 11 State Champions, and 26 other prominent wins. Seventeen states were represented in 2011.

The tournament is held in honor of the late Robert H. Chapman, Jr. Chapman, a long time member of the Country Club of Spartanburg, was the only man to serve as president of both the South Carolina Golf Association & Carolinas Golf Association. He was an accomplished player and served the USGA in several capacities. In his business life, Chapman was a local and national leader in the textile industry. The tournament also benefits the Spartanburg County Foundation and the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation.  To date, over $110,000 has gone to scholarship recipients through both organizations thanks to the many kind supporters of the Bobby Chapman.
